1. Obama immigration order temporarily halted by Texas judge

 U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen ruled Monday night to block President Barack Obama’s order shielding up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation. Hanen ruled that the administration failed to comply with the Administrative Procedure Act, which calls for the White House to afford a longer notification and comment period.

 

2. Another leak in the Kane leak case

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has asked the agency that oversees lawyers to consider disciplining Lanny Davis, one of state Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s lawyers, for making a sealed court order public. Davis provided reporters with a copy of the high court’s Jan. 21 order blocking a Montgomery County prosecutor from bringing criminal charges against Kane.

 

3. Dems divided: Ward leaders won’t back Quiñones Sanchez’s Council race
City Councilwoman Maria Quiñones Sánchez won two terms in office without support from Philadelphia’s Democratic Party. But a dozen ward leaders in Quiñones Sanchez’s Seventh District gathered Monday to endorse a candidate in the May 19 Democratic primary. Sánchez and the ward leaders disagree on whether she was even invited to attend the meeting.

 

4. Eagles’ Nate Allen details his jail ordeal

Nate Allen’s Monday trip to the Fort Myers, Fla., lockup began when he left a restaurant, got in his truck, and was pulled over by an officer who asked if he had ever been arrested. Allen said, “No.” Eventually, a woman sitting in the back of another police cruiser ID’d him and he was arrested without knowing what he was alleged to have done.

 

5. SRC to Rule on All 39 New Charter Applications at Special Meeting

The School Reform Commission has scheduled a special meeting to approve or reject each of 39 applications to start new charter schools in Philadelphia. The meeting will be 3:30 p.m. on February 18th at Philadelphia School District headquarters, 440 N. Broad St.
